On behalf of the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation, Jean-Jacques Barbéris, member of the executive board of Amundi and the head of institutional and corporate clients division & ESG, spoke at the High-Level Segment plenary session of the COP15 Biodiversity Summit on 13 October. Mr Barbéris reiterated that there is strong support within the finance community for addressing the loss of biodiversity, and this should be reflected in an ambitious and effective Global Biodiversity Framework supported by appropriate regulatory measures and financial incentives.
“The next draft of the Global Biodiversity Framework should more accurately reflect the sense of urgency and the level of ambition required to protect and restore biodiversity. It is essential that the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework highlights the role those financial institutions and the private sector can and should play in delivering the 2030 milestones and the 2050 goals,” said Mr Barbéris.
Mr Barbéris’s speech referred to the written suggestions that the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation made for targets 14 and 15 in the draft of the Global Biodiversity Framework during the Open Ended Working Group 3 last summer.
