Biodiversity brochure for Wienerberger
Wienerberger, a manufacturer of bricks, roof tiles, and piping systems, aims to have a biodiversity action plan in place for all 200 of its production sites by the end of 2023. NextGreen has been asked to contribute ideas regarding the external communication of this commitment.
As an international producer of all kinds of clay-based products, Wienerberger has decades of experience in nature restoration in former clay quarries. Nature development in the floodplains of the major rivers in the Netherlands is one example of this. The company is now focusing its attention on the next step towards biodiversity neutrality in 2030: strengthening nature at its production sites. Wienerberger's Sustainability Strategy 2020-2023 states that the company will draw up a biodiversity action plan for all 200 of its production sites by the end of 2023.
In October, Wienerberger published an internal guide describing how these biodiversity action plans should be developed. It includes a step-by-step plan and design principles, as well as a catalog of 31 greening measures.
NextGreen was asked to convert this internal guide into a public brochure that Wienerberger could use to communicate its commitment to a wider audience. Drawing on our community building experience and insightful publications on biodiversity and climate adaptation for governments, financial institutions, and knowledge organizations, we advised on the structure and on an infographic that visualizes the information. We also wrote a new introduction tailored to the target groups Wienerberger wants to reach, ranging from neighbors to governments and investors. We are delighted with the beautiful end product!
