Overview of finance and biodiversity initiatives
Thirteen different initiatives on finance and biodiversity – a new overview now shows who is working on what. Together with the signatories of the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge, the Finance & Biodiversity Community, UNEP FI, and PRI, we have compiled an overview of the most important initiatives for financial institutions in the field of biodiversity. The overview document shows the topics each initiative is working on, as well as planned activities and products for 2021-2022, publications, and contact information. The overview was launched on April 1, during the webinar on biodiversity measurement methods.
Momentum for biodiversity is growing rapidly within the financial sector, and with it the number of initiatives, network organizations, and platforms related to this topic. Together with UNEP FI and PRI, the signatories of the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge and the members of the Finance & Biodiversity Community wanted to give financial institutions insight into what initiatives exist and who is doing what. The aim is to leverage synergies and accelerate collaboration, including with the new Finance for Biodiversity Foundation.
The thirteen initiatives listed in the overview:
- Finance & Biodiversity Community (F&B) part of the EU Business & Biodiversity Platform
- Finance for Biodiversity Pledge and Foundation (FfB)
- Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)
- Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB), Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI), and Investment Leadership Platform (ILP) part of UNEP FI
- Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)
- Finance for Biodiversity Initiative (F4B)
- Science Based Targets Network (SBTN)
- Aligning accounting approaches for nature (Align)
- Partnership for Biodiversity Accounting Financials (PBAF)
- Exploring Natural Capital Opportunities, Risks, and Exposure (ENCORE)
- Consortium for Biodiversity Footprint (CBF)
- Coalition for Private Investment in Conservation (CPIC)
- The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN)
A summary table shows which topics each initiative focuses on and who can participate. We also included a summary fact sheet for each initiative.
As the biodiversity movement is developing rapidly, we will update this overview document every quarter. Please send any feedback and input for inclusion in future updates to info@financeforbiodiversity.org.
