Anne-Marie Bor, quartermaster for the financial sector
Since January 2021, Anne-Marie has been working part-time as a financial sector quartermaster within Samen Klimaatbestendig (Climate Resilient Together). Within this network for and by professional 'Climate Workers', Anne-Marie tackles climate adaptation issues with financial institutions and their umbrella organizations. This builds on the earlier analysis Finance and Climate Adaptation. One of the first actions is to organize a lunch lecture on September 13 from 12:00 to 13:00.
The consequences of climate change are having an impact on the financial sector. The number of claims being made to insurers is increasing, and mortgage lenders and homeowners are at risk of losing value on their properties. Climate adaptation is now also part of the European Commission's Sustainable Finance Action Plan.
Previous analysis conducted by NextGreen on finance and climate adaptation revealed opportunities to improve cooperation between the financial sector and governments. Local governments are looking to connect with the financial sector because of their interest in area development and existing real estate, but they do not know who to involve and at what level. Conversely, financial institutions sometimes seek municipal contacts in the field of urban water management in order to gain insight into area plans that affect the climate resilience of investments.
As a quartermaster for the financial sector, Anne-Marie forwards these types of ad hoc questions from financial institutions and local authorities to the relevant contacts. She also provides input for the knowledge sessions that Samen Klimaatbestendig organizes with governments, area developers, housing associations, and business parks—especially when the topic of financing is on the agenda. Where possible, she invites banks, insurers, and investors to participate in cross-pollination. By maintaining regular contact with governments and partnerships within the financial sector, Anne-Marie also explores opportunities to establish a more structural connection between governments and the financial sector in the field of climate adaptation.
Anne-Marie on her role:
As a connector, I am committed to accelerating sustainability transitions. I focus primarily on the necessary cooperation within and between financial institutions and governments. My mission is to bring these worlds together, discover joint opportunities, and leverage them for a future-proof structure.
Do you have a question about involving financial institutions in climate-proof design? Or do you work at a financial institution and are you looking for climate professionals within municipalities, water boards, and provinces? Send an email to anne-marie@samenklimaatbestendig.nl.
You can also send Anne-Marie an email if you don't want to miss the lunch lecture. We will then send you an invitation as soon as registration opens.
