Context

Businesses and biodiversity are closely linked. This may be because businesses have an impact on biodiversity at their location, such as in mining, manufacturing, and chemicals. But businesses can also be dependent on ecosystems through the supply chain, such as food companies or drinking water production. Finally, there are also companies that enhance biodiversity, including estates and green roofs. Within the Community of Practice Biodiversity and Business, companies investigate the impact of their business model on biodiversity and whether this can be made measurable. Companies learn from each other and enter into new collaborations. The insights, experiences, and stories are compiled in this publication.

Approach and activities

The participants of the CoP met at the location of one of the participants during 2011-2013. The Community of Practice was made possible by RVO and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Knowledge institutions were involved in order to keep track of knowledge questions and policy themes. Every six months, the sounding board group reflected on the results and linked them to developments in their environment.
