Context

The environmental vision forms the basis for policy choices and regulations concerning the physical living environment and the layout of municipalities. The choices that municipalities have to make in the environmental vision are complex. That is why the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) has tested various assessment frameworks for the environmental vision. This report on the assessment framework for the environmental vision is the result of that testing. The report also includes structured assessment steps for municipalities.

Approach and activities

This guide was developed through practical trials with municipalities and can inspire municipalities to create their own assessment framework. For more than a year, VNG has been in discussion with municipalities and experts about incorporating an assessment framework into the process and how to arrive at balanced choices. NextGreen supervised the practical trials together with Innovation Partners.
