Context

Nature is under increasing pressure in urban areas. The Nature Roofs Guide shows how green roofs can make a difference to nature. Nature roofs enhance biodiversity, capture water, prevent heat stress, and contribute to health and quality of life in the city.  The Guide brings together knowledge and experiences gathered by the Werkspoor Biodiversity team of the Green Deal Green Roofs initiative.

Approach and activities

Within the Green Deal Green Roofs, companies, municipalities, water boards, provinces, central government, NGOs, and knowledge institutions are working together to make better use of the sustainable benefits of multifunctional roofs. The partners are developing successful routes for upscaling, such as tax breaks, better building labels, and innovation in supply and demand. In the spring of 2019, the Green Deal Green Roofs transitioned into an independent, national platform for multifunctional roofs: the National Roof Plan.
