Context

Smartly designed green roofs offer many advantages. They keep buildings cooler, produce energy, reduce noise both inside and outside, capture particulate matter, and retain rainwater. This benefits multiple parties: water boards, municipalities, homeowners, users, property owners, and/or mortgage lenders. The Green Deal Green Roofs worked for four years (2014-2019) to stack up profits on the roof. In the Legacy document, we look back on these successful years and take a look at the future.

Approach and activities

Within the Green Deal Green Roofs, 40 different partners, including companies, municipalities, water boards, provinces, central government, NGOs, and knowledge institutions, are working together to better utilize the sustainable benefits of multifunctional roofs. The partners are developing successful routes for upscaling, such as tax breaks, better building labels, and innovation in supply and demand. In the spring of 2019, the Green Deal Green Roofs transitioned into an independent, national platform for multifunctional roofs: the National Roof Plan.
