Context
Making cities climate-proof requires more space for greenery and water. Municipalities and water boards have an important role to play in achieving this, but they cannot do it alone: around 50 to 70% of the surface area in cities is privately owned. To support municipalities and water boards in making choices about instruments and financial incentives, the Decision Support Working Group of the Financial Incentives Alliance published the Policy Mixer.
Approach and activities
The Decision Support working group of the Financial Incentives Alliance created a framework for developing a mix of financial incentives and policy instruments for climate adaptation. After two years of pilot projects and collaboration on financial incentives for climate adaptation, the partners concluded the Financial Incentives Alliance during the partner meeting on June 8, 2021. All three working groups were discussed. The Decision Support working group, which NextGreen supervises together with Stroom and Onderstroom, presented its final product: the Policy Mixer.
The Adaptation Allience foundation emerged from the Financial Incentives Alliance. The Adaptation Allience organizes working groups and Communities of Practice to accelerate climate adaptation around business parks, housing associations, and nature.
