Context

The financial sector has a major impact on biodiversity. By financing fossil fuels, mining, or intensive agriculture, for example, the sector contributes to biodiversity loss. The members of the CoP Financial Institutions and Natural Capital examine the impact of their financing on biodiversity and discuss ways to reduce this negative impact and strive for no net loss of biodiversity.

Approach and activities

The CoP Financial Institutions and Natural Capital is the precursor to the current EU Biodiversity and Biodiversity Platform, workstream Finance. It is a forum for financial institutions to share experiences, raise awareness of biodiversity in the financial sector, and promote best practices in green financing.
