Context

Business parks offer an opportunity to strengthen biodiversity in urban areas. The factsheet Nature at business parks aligns with the implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation and the National Restoration Plans that member states are currently developing. The publication illustrates how municipalities, businesses, park managers, and financial institutions can collaborate to promote nature and, in doing so, contribute to climate resilience and a healthy living environment.

Nature-based measures contribute to business continuity, employee well-being, ecological connectivity, and the long-term value of real estate. The five steps outlined in the factsheet and the collaboration described provide a solid foundation for nature-positive transitions in European business parks.

Approach and activities

Together with the financial institutions from the Finance Workstream, the European Commission, and partners, we formed a subgroup that developed the factsheet. Building on the earlier factsheet “Climate-resilient business parks” that we created with the Platform for Sustainable Finance, this subgroup defined the five steps for nature on business parks.

NextGreen facilitated the process by involving partners from its network in the subgroup, organizing meetings, collecting real-world examples, and structuring and compiling the entire factsheet. During online workshops and a meeting on June 4 during EU Green Week 2026, participants provided input on all sections of the factsheet. Based on these contributions, NextGreen developed and finalized the factsheet.
